We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Nottingham. This full-time, contract role presents an exciting opportunity to work with students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, supporting their academic, emotional, and social development.
As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver tailored and engaging lessons to students with complex needs, ensuring they receive the individualised support required to thrive. You will work closely with a team of specialist staff, teaching assistants, and external professionals to create a nurturing and structured learning environment.
This position is ideal for an empathetic and adaptable educator who is passionate about inclusion and trauma-informed teaching. While prior experience in an SEMH setting is desirable, it is not essential, as comprehensive training and professional development will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons suited to students with SEMH needs.
- Foster a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Implement therapeutic and trauma-informed teaching strategies to support students’ emotional regulation.
- Work closely with support staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop individual learning plans (ILPs).
- Encourage students to develop self-confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour strategies.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching approaches to maximise engagement.
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals to ensure a consistent support system.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and promote the welfare and well-being of all students.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A strong understanding of SEMH teaching strategies and positive behaviour management.
- Experience working in an SEMH or SEND setting is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent communication, resilience, and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, adaptable, and nurturing approach to teaching.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
