Are you an empathetic and skilled Occupational Therapist ready to make a profound impact in the lives of students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a supportive SEMH School in Lewisham. This full-time, permanent role offers the opportunity to deliver tailored therapeutic interventions, empowering students to overcome barriers and thrive in their learning environment.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about integrating therapy into education, supporting a holistic approach to student well-being, and working collaboratively with a dedicated team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging therapy programs tailored to the needs of students with SEMH challenges.
- Lead individual and group occupational therapy sessions to enhance emotional and physical well-being.
- Implement therapeutic strategies such as sensory integration and zones of regulation.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate therapy into the classroom, ensuring students have access to a seamless learning and therapeutic experience.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, contributing to their individual education and development plans.
- Provide whole-staff training on occupational therapy strategies to enhance school-wide understanding and support.
- Communicate regularly with families, offering guidance and updates on therapeutic interventions.
- Maintain accurate and secure therapy records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with school policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of an accredited occupational therapy program with HCPC registration.
- Experience working with children and young people in challenging contexts.
- Knowledge of child development, SEMH needs, and therapeutic strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Experience in sensory integration or other therapeutic approaches.
- Additional training or qualifications related to SEMH or special educational needs.
