We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Headteacher SENDCO to join a thriving secondary school in Canvey Island. This full-time, contract role presents an excellent opportunity to lead and develop SEND provision, ensuring that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the highest standard of support to thrive in their education.
As Assistant Headteacher SENDCO, you will take a strategic lead in the planning, implementation, and development of SEND policies and interventions, working closely with teachers, support staff, students, and external professionals. You will play a key role in embedding inclusive teaching practices and ensuring that all SEND students have access to an engaging, tailored curriculum.
This position is ideal for an experienced SENDCO who is looking to progress into senior leadership or a current leader wanting to make a meaningful impact in a supportive school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the school’s SEND provision, ensuring it aligns with national standards and best practices.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and support of students with SEND.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to implement individual learning plans (ILPs).
- Ensure effective implementation and compliance with EHCPs and SEND frameworks.
- Provide ongoing professional development and training for staff on inclusive teaching strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, adapting interventions where necessary.
- Act as the main point of contact for parents, carers, and external professionals, ensuring strong partnerships for student support.
- Contribute to whole-school leadership and strategic decision-making.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare of all students.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive experience working in SEND leadership within a secondary school setting.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCPs, and intervention strategies.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- A commitment to inclusive education and developing a whole-school SEND strategy.
- A proven track record of raising standards in SEND provision.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
